No pay today for 2000 staff at Maruti's Manesar plant

GURGAON: Over 2,000 employees, from top honchos to the workers, posted at the violence-hit Manesar plant of Maruti Suzuki India, will not get their salaries on Wednesday (August 1).

Confirming the move, Maruti's chief operating officer (administration), S Y Siddiqui, said: "No one working at the Manesar plant will be given salary. According to the rule, after the company's lockout, workers are not paid till the time it (lockout) is revoked." Sources in the company said a deadline for the revocation of the lockout at the Manesar plant has not been decided yet. Siddiqui, however, added that the salaries of workers posted at the Gurgaon plant would be paid as per schedule.

Another Maruti official said: "The monthly wages of employees for the period before the incident, will be paid only after the lockout is rolled back and the plant starts functioning. Workers had damaged everything — computers, server cables and entire data on July 18. At present, the company has no records of the workers and their duty-hours details for the entire month. The data will have to be retrieved and only after that the payment will be made."
